Dear Amazon

It’s not me.

It’s you.

I’m sorry but we need to part ways.

Well….we need to see other people.

We had a good run you and I. For over a decade I would make you my first stop for things I needed that weren’t available locally or that I didn’t need right away but also didn’t want to wait a couple of weeks for.

But you changed.

You used to be reliable, trustworthy, and always there for me.

But you changed.

Now it is like being in Vegas at the slots. Each order is a pull of the lever.

If I pay for same day delivery, will it happen? If my delivery status reads “Delivery by 2 P.M.” and 7 days later that is still the status, do I continue to wait?

Especially when it is shipped locally and not from across the country.

Does cancelling an order even work anymore, or if I call customer service do I get told that it is still coming and cannot be cancelled?

7 days later with no status change.

For a trade-in, how many weeks do I wait for my item to be evaluated and paid out?

Four?

Six?

(to be fair, even though they received that item and still have the status shown as “not yet evaluated”, after two calls to customer service – the first call I was told just to keep on waiting – they did do a “customer satisfaction refund” of the trade-in value)

For most of my decade+ relationship with you I never had to call. I never had to write.

You just kept on being reliable.

Then you opened a distribution center about 20 minutes from my home. I was excited. Yes! More shipping options and hopefully even faster deliveries.

Except now I miss the days of your shipping via 3rd parties. Now I or my wife is reaching out to customer service multiple times a month.

When I do get a delivery on time, it might be left at the end of my walkway by the road.

On snow/rain days, it might be left exposed on the end of the porch instead of under the covered portion where it is protected from the elements.

More often than not it is leaned against my door itself, blocking opening it without tipping it over.

Hope it isn’t fragile.

Like most relationships where things aren’t working, I’ve put in the extra effort to try to get to a better place. I’ve reached out. I’ve given feedback. I’ve tried to adjust to the new paradigm.

But when USPS, UPS, and FedEx are all more reliable, you have become second choice.

Oh this isn’t to say I won’t still place orders with you from time to time. It just means that when given a choice between other retailers and you.

I’ll choose them for my consumer needs.

Welcome to Day 2.

(note that this is about their consumer shopping experience and not speaking to other services that they offer)
